Hi everyone! I am hoping to plant out some sweetcorn on my plot next month. My problem is an experienced neighbour of mine told me that squirrels will strip the sweetcorn before you can pick it :( any suggestions very welcome.

Are they native red squirrels or grays? If gray squirrel, the best thing would be to shoot and eat them. They not only go after your corn, but they are also damaging to the native squirrel population.

The meat is delicious fried, grilled, or in a stew.

Thanks Mainer but was thinking along the lines of something slightly less drastic :? They are grey by the way.

Tree rats? It's shoot 'em, trap 'em, or live with 'em I'm afraid. They'll eat through anything less substantial than triweld mesh if they want the corn. There are probably humane traps around if you fancy relocating them, but you'd have to check them every few hours to avoid roasting said rodents in summertime. Have you considered a small and angry dog?
