How long does it take for the scales to return to normal once they've been treated? We've used epronex (on the advice of the vet).

My rooster took a few weeks. If they don't go down after that you'll probably need to re-apply (not used epronex, so check the instructions - it may have a "don't re-apply" period)

In the end I took her to the vet who had a look under the microscope and said there was no trace of the mite, so the doses must have taken care of it. She said that it can take ages for the scales to regenerate themselves and flatten down again, and that in some cases they might not look normal again.

Try rubbing some vaseline onto the scales, it actually works to smother mites too. Any oil based product does.

Just like treting headlice in humans. generaly the lighter the oil the better for nits so i would guess the same with mites aswell - a little teatree or euculuptus added to it would only increase its efficacy too i would think.
