Cold frame help

Hi all

The cold frame left behind by the previous owners of our house is basically a dead body. The glass is intact but the frame itself is knackered. I'm armed with a stack of old pallets so does anyone have a pattern or could you point me in the right direction so I could build a replacement for it? Only the one I have is so dead that it's almost impossible to see how it was done.

Many thanks
Lynne

If you google "how to make a cold frame" you'll find some plans and drawings. Basically it is a rectangular box which you cover by glass.

Important is to match the size of the box to the glass you already have. I have made small cold frames by nailing planks in a rectangle to 4 short posts. Backside of the cold frame one plank higher than front side and for the sides the top plank is sawed diagonally. If the glass in under a sharp angle you may want to fix something to prevent it from sliding off or you could hinge it (but I don't think that is practical in most situations).

Good luck, Jandra

Thanks Jandra
