I've decided to share a few handy hints I've used over the years. From a book my mum gave me many moons ago.
firstly HOUSEHOLD SMELLS
Clothing and bedding
B.O.
Put two crushed aspirins in a bucket and fill with water. Soak the nasty shirt in it before washing. (also works with tobacco smells in clothing)
smelly socks
soak in a bucket of water and vinegar before washing.
Shoes
sprinkle inside of shoes with bi-carbonate of soda and leave over night
Urine
Soak in a bucket of water with either lemon juice or vinegar. Dry clothing, sheets or babies bedding in the sun.
Oil smells
soak in a bucket of water with a table spoon of euculyptus oil added. also add to the wash half a teaspoon of euculyptus oil.
room smells
tobacco - soak a towel with a bit of vinegar and wave the towel above your head as you walk through the room.
- small plate of charcoal will absorb tobacco smells or a bowl of cidar vinegar left overnight.
Vomit
Wipe over stain with vinegar, sprinkle a few drops of euculyptus oil around the area.
Vomit on clothing - soak in bucket of vinegar and water overnight.
Newly painted room
Half an onion in a bowl of water or a couple of handfuls of fresh grass or hay
perfuming your home
put a small pot pourri sack over central heating ducts. (a home made method is one using dried orange and lemon rinds the heat brings out the citrus smell)
