hi all. I have a 11yr old son and he has become very environment friendly recently and I obviously want to do everything I can to help him but I haven't a clue where to start

Welcome!
recycle.
get some pre-grown tomato plants from wilkinson and buy a growbag at the same time, keep them in a pot on your windowsill until may (frosts should be over) then cut holes in the top of the growbag and plant the toms in it.
don't bother starting toms from seed now, you wont get fruit in time I don't think.
encourage charity shops; this is another bit of the recycle thing!
encourage walking or public transport.
discuss ways he can help; does he leave anything on stand by for instance? lights on when he leaves a room? (my hubby does this; it REALLY gets my goat!) are there clothes he could wear again rather than sticking them in for washing?
hope this helps!!

So Emmsy talk to the Young man and tell him the same thing and make it a joint project to learn together as team not as mum and son. I think you may be surprised at the outcome. Good luck and I think your son has very caring Mum.
