I know that feeling. I've been feeding my kids fresh caught fish for years, and last year they started catching the fish themselves. Neither my son nor my daughter has any problems handling live or dead fish.

there's a river which goes through wickford if ya fancy a road trip. Or the blackwater navigation canal or Chelmer and Can rivers in chelmsford. or there's a fishing lake in thorndon park just off the a128; but i think that's sport fishing only, don't think you're meant to take their prize carp home and eat them!!
other than that there's always the thames.... well, you never know!
