pig & eggs

can i feed my pigs eggs (not from the kitchen of course) or should i try to sell them and by pig food.

I think you would certainly be better buying pig feed! My Berkshires are getting 4lb of pig nuts each a day - that's a h3ll of a lot of eggs notwithstanding the pigs needing more than just egg....

I have *cough* heard though that pigs eat anything you put in front of them except onions and orange peel.

thanks thurston. sorry i should have put it better i only have 5 hens they would have to go like a gateling gun. just in with there mane feed,to use them up.

Eggs are a great treat/snack for pigs. We just feed them whole, and the pigs really savour them. Our breeding sow holds her chin up, gently breaks the shell in her mouth, and careful to not spill a drop she lets it run down her through, finishing off witha lip-smacking crunch of the shell. We only feed fresh ones, even though she found a nest of rotten ones and ate the lot. What a pong!

I fed our piggies surplus eggs last year when our chickens were going at full pelt, and even our neighbours could not consume more than 9 eggs a day, and our girls loved the eggs, either hard boiled when we could not face any more egg sarnies, or raw just chucked in the bucket of feed. Great source of protein for the pigs.
