where do you want to go? what activities do you want to do? who´s going with you?

For gentle walking, the new forest. For something more strenuous, the peak district or cairngorms. For lying on the beach and eating ice cream, cornwall or st davids in wales.

I´m hoping that before too long we will take the ferry to morocco.

Seriously considering a trip up to Aberdeen in the next few months... but I do need to tell the people I know who live in the area...

achem...

Hey all you 'ishers in and around the fair town of Aberdeen... can anyone suggest what we should do while we are up there... except of course... meet all you guys

Well that's everyone I know in the area notified

Actually will be visiting my sister for a while in Aberdeen town, but her flat is tto small for us to stay with her, so need to think of an itinery(sp?)

Kiery - the West Highland Way is well worth doing if it is that kind of holiday you are into (100mile hike from Glasgow to Fort William)

My favorite campsite is this place Me and Dave had our 30th Birthday party there and everyone loved it. Its a friendly campsite on the edge of a woodland, with a yurt for hire if needs be and barbeque area, open fires - pretty idilic really.

It is not far from Bath so you can amuse yourself with that. The local pubs nearby do good food too.

Give me a few days warning - I need to clear the guestroom! And better wait a month or so, the house is b*** freezing... :(

Thanks folks for all the ideas. Andy, the campsite outside Bath looks good and hopefully will be a bit warmer than up here in Scotland.

What about a travel/hols/places to visit, section in the forum?

I know there are a few eco travel related sites like www.responsibletravel.com (can be a bitpricey for me) and www.seat61.com, but it would be good to get recommendations and hear of your experiences of places.

As soon as you open that first site - you see everything with flights. How can that be responsible travel?

To be honest - if you really want an eco-holiday, you get on your bike (on into your boots) at the house door, and start off. Mind you, I don't do it myself... But I've massively restricted my "holidays". I'm aiming for one week in Shetland per year, which means car to the nearest station, and public transport from there on (train, ferry). Still not ideal, but my conscience can live with that.

have you looked into organic places to stay - there are campsites as well as B&B's all over

Yeah Ina, that's a bit true for the responsible travel website for the foreign holidays, but I was just looking at UK holidays. Never flown in my life and don't intend too.
You can book the train/bus to get there though. :flower:

That sounds better!

It always annoys me, when travel pages in papers etc announce "eco holidays" - and then it's flying off to somewhere on a rather non-eco safari or whatever - only they use recycled loo paper!

I completely agree with you on that point. Travel pages in newspapers really annoy me. Hardly any UK hols reviewed and with the controversial excuse of (The Guardian) but we offset the carbon emissions.

We're off to Tenby in May in a self-catering apartment we've rented. Can't wait. My daughters getting much more confident walking now so I'm looking forward to some walking along the coast.

Can I just say how lovely it was to meet you and your family Ann! I hope you manage to get through your huge bag of oats and the other goodies that you bought from the food co-op.

I much prefer holidays in the uk, much to the disgust of my OH who loves to fly etc. His father has bought a place out in Cyprus and David keeps talking about us going out there for a holiday - anyone got any ideas how we might get there WITHOUT flying?

I can't remember the location of the campsite we stayed at way up north in the Highlands... but it was fantastic. No facilities as such, but real unspoilt countryside. I guess it depends on what sort of a campsite you want - fancy facilities/entertainment/hot showers/shop etc or basic in the wild stuff.
