Shetland cod

I see the cod farm on Shetland is in receivership, I was quite surprised about that, i thought it would be a success, although i was a bit shocked at the price per kilo, but still i would have thought people would have gone for it. Over 100 lost jobs, which is alot for Shetland

It's not really surprising as it's down to modern business practices.
A lot of capital had been sunk into the business, but as the cod stock takes some time to mature, the business wasn't generating a return quick enough to repay the capital, much less reinvest more.
Oh, and don't make the mistake of thinking it was an ecologically sustainable business - the cod stock are fed with wild herring and mackerel. Okay, it's offcuts, but you still need a lot of wild fish to be caught to produce one farmed one.

i agree personally, i am not a fan of fish farming, it just doesnt seem right, but its going to be a blow to shetland all he same.
