Yeterday did my niebour a favour, as you do, helped him with his tractor,
wich he uses to take his boat out fishing. about half past four this afternoon he knocked on my door with three fresh crabs that he caught in his pots today, don't you just love the community spirit

yum!

Last edible surprize I had was a bag of samphire hanging on the back door handle.

Much preferred this to crabs - each to his own!

I love crab, but only the white meat. I'm none too keen on the dark matter lol!

I'm in agony over crab and lobster. On one hand I LOVE eating them but on the other I HATE the idea that they die screaming in agony.

I know that the "new" way of thinking is that you comatose them in the freezer and then boil them alive, but that still seems incredibly cruel and more like torture than humane death.

I am a meat eater, so therefore things die for me to eat but I'm really having a clash of conscience here.

What do others think and is there a quicker way of killing them?

I say HFW killing a crab by lifting up the little flap underneath and sticking something spikey into it, then sticking something spikey inbetween its eyes. Sounds horrid, but instant death apparenty.

I saw that too, but he doesn't do it to lobsters - he freezes them then boils them. Maybe that's a good crab method. Which is excellent cos I love crab!
I'm also worried about cooking shellfish by dropping them in the heat too. I know they're only tiny but it still seems like torture.

Maybe I'm just soft - although I don't mind killing chickens, pigs etc.

I like crab claws.... but had dressed crab when in Cornwall a few years back and HATED it.

I rather fancy trying the samphire though - not had that before.

In Billingsgate fish market the crabs were boiled alive.

In Australia the "drowned" them in rain water... I think they were lobsters.

You see, that's my problem..... love the food, hate the method!

lobsters can live a while in fresh water though. They must have suffered a slow death!

They might have been a different type... I'm not really up to all these seafood thingies (don't eat them myself).

You could think of it like you being dropped into a vat of boiling water.. The shock and temp difference would kill you almost instantly.
The pain you would feel would be minimal, if any.
Have you ever burned yourself accidently.... It takes a while for that pain to register.
Im guessing (Im no expert) that being dropped into a vat of boiling water, by the time that pain registered, you would be dead.

I have 3 lobsters as pets, fasinating creatures. I would never eat them but lobster meat is very tasty. As long as they dont see me eating their relatives..... shhhhhhh !
