We got the surprise of our lives early this morning. Matilda, one of our Berkshire Sows that we bred, had her litter last night. This is her third litter. She had 16. Wow! what a girl - a very tied girl I have to say. Two didn't make it so we have a very healthy 14 left.

Matilda's Mother "Missy" had her litter yesterday - 11 so we have piggies everywhere.

 glenniedragon. We have taken two of the piglets and given them to the other Mum who had her litter the day before. We rubbed a little of the sawdust from the bedding of the new hutch to help give them the smell of the other litter (although that may not have been necessary as Missy has accepted other foster piggies before. Anyway to cut a long story short, she accepted them no problems, feeding well and clumping with their new litter mates. That will make it easier for Matilda (she has 14 nipples by the way ha!) and all is well.

Matilda was absolutely exhaused. I spent quite a lot of time with her giving her molasses water to give her a bit of a boost. She wasn't interested in much else to eat or drink at first - to be expected - but by last night she was eating happily and this morning looks completely normal.

Missy on the other hand, gets up between babies and has some food and a drink, pops some more out and repeats the process. She never, ever goes off her food and if she did I would be really worried.

Thanks everyone. Yep, old tree man, you can only imagine the noise at feed time for the next 8 weeks. We will need ear muffs  All are doing well and Matilda is looking like her old self today.
