AOL and firefox

I run firefox as my intarweb browser of choice... the only problem seems to be that I am on talktalk, which is an AOL run company. before anyone says "argh get rid of it it's evil" I can't, I still have nearly a year on the contract my darling husband signed us up to. my problem is this:
ebay, paypal and a few other websites don't seem to work properly, load properly or even click on at all within my firefox and I end up having to use I.E in order to get anywhere.

is this something I've done or is it just cos AOL are evil b4st4rds who hate independant computer programmers?!

ah! aparently not, when i mentioned this problem to their technical people just after we moved they could give no reason for it.
oh well. I'll just keep counting down the next 11 months.

found the problem this afternoon. my darling hubby bought me a new RJ11 cable for the office to make his job of fixing all the wires up more easy... we only have one phone plug in the whole house and it's about 10ft away from the computer. I was using an extension cable, plus a standard RJ11 ADSL modem cable... he's spent £27 *bless him!!* on a heavy duty RJ11 purely because it was long enough to run from my wall mounted modem, across the ceiling and down the other wall to the phone plu. This means I now mahe only one cable joint between the compoopter and the phone line, rather than the 3 I had before.

ebay works.
hsbc works.
facebook took 30 secs to upload some fairly hefty photographs.

WOOT!

heh heh heh. I found it by accident :D the woman on the technical support line had given me the wrong batch of numbers to shove into a boxy-thingummy whatsit to make the modem wiggle its insides better....
now i have the right numbers to put in the right box to make the modem insides wiggle a bit better and therefore load stuff.

make more sense?
when i go into technical crap with my hubby he just looks blank until I've finished then either starts telling me how to change the oil filter or do diagnostic work on an FGWR HST train, or just stares at me and says "so... what you mean is... the wizard in the box waved a wand and made it work... right?"
