Cotton - question for Wombat/Nev

My seeds have sprouted, just planted 2 seedlings in the garden, probably in the wrong spot but I have others that I want to try elsewhere too.
These first 2 are on the south side of a colourbond fence, 2 - 3 feet away from it. In summer it gets full sun but in winter none at all.
How big will the plants grow over the summer, they are 10 - 15 cm high now, do you think they will survive through the winter? When should I expect flowers?
Also do you know if the plants will survive in containers? I do have spots that gets morning sun, no afternoon sun but at the moment it isn't feasible to plant in the ground there, most of the area is waiting for paving, where the garden will be is nothing but sticky clay and needs to be dug up for access to the stormwater pipes.
I'll probably have more questions but a storm is about to hit and I don't want to be on the computer when it does.
Cheers and thanks
Cheryl
