Shall I sell them on Ebay?

Found a couple of disks in the back of a burnt out postal van. I played them on my computer and they were full of 25 millions peoples data. So what can I get for them on ebay?

the way that this government plays fast and loose with our details suggest to me that's probably where they'd end up anyway...........
I've heard rumours (that I don't disbelieve) that they have plans to flog our details to private enterprise anyway........(which is yet another good reason to resist ID cards,,,,,,,,)
The tories reached a similar stage of depravity after a while in power - this lot have surpassed them by miles - totally ignoring our ecological plight, they are going to "grow" airports, treat our armed forces like dirt and send them to war armed with pea-shooters, and have single-handedly instituted the most draconian police state mechanism the world has ever seen........
What IS up with the great british public???? - what happened to boring stuff like Magna Carta, habeas corpus, jury trials..........."innocent until proved guilty".........

The three ID databases will be available to around 48,000 approved private sector organisations. For security reasons of course. So you'll be safer. It's for your own good, after all.

There's no difference between them at all. The political classes may publicly pretend to have differences with each other, but in reality they have very few. All they want is power, perks and control.

That is the problem - too much recourse to law and not enough to lamp posts!

Personally I believe there is a tie in here with Northern Rock. I think you''l find that the only genuine bank account details are for those people who save with NR.
When NR is sold, the Bank of England will have to write off the loans. Immediately after the sale all the NR customers will be hit by massive fraudulent withdrawals from their bank accounts. Leaving the banks to reiumburse the customers and the BoE will have their money back.

Here we have two CD-R's for auction. They are not blank, but seem to have some sort of database written to them. I found them in my local courier firm's sorting office, addressed to
"Her Majesties Audit Office - Child Benefits Section" and marked
"Sensitive HM Government Information - DO NOT LOSE - ENSURE THESE DISKS DO NOT FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE CRIMINAL FRATERNITY"
They were obviously surplus to requirements.
I haven't read the data myself. The database appears to have approximately 25 milion records in it, but is password protected, so it is impossible to read it and it's definitely impossible to extract any bank account data from it.
Any information that you might discover (should you be lucky enough to win the auction for these useful items and read the database thereon) must be kept in the strictest confidence.
0.99p start and no reserve, so grab yourself a bargain. All profit from these items will be donated to Sue Ryder Care.
Cash on collection ONLY please from Portsmouth PO8, since we wouldn't want these to get lost in the post!
PLEASE NOTE: Government departments should contact me by email before bidding, since they will have to be vetted for competence before entrusting such items to them.

Arrested?
Probably not but I have a very low opinion of spam, junk mail and cold callers on the telephone, so it would be an ethically-twisted move to give them more data (even if your own details aren't on it).
Unless clearly identified with an owner to return them to, it might be best to destroy them. Or, if you are feeling creative, you could turn them into a work of art highlighting the careless way that personal data is handled, causing you to become an international art celebrity as well as author!

Our details are already sold to private companies - how do you think NCP and the privately owned traffic wardens and clampers get your drivers details - DVLA sell them for about £2 a go

Oh no you can't DO that.......the nanny state will be on your back trying to 'pin' something on you, abuse, mental illness whatever!
Oh and if you choose not to be open with your life/details you are perceived as being not only being a nutter but obviously have something to hide and therefore must be investigated further. Any children you have must also have 'problems' and therefore put on the pre at risk register at school and questioned daily by a teacher 'what their problems are'. If they say nothing that then becomes further proof they have a problem.
No, no you can't opt out!
You must tell everyone your business and bank details etc so that the information can be 'stored'.
