Wow after a long wait of around 4 weeks we have our allotment.

We cant do anything until 20th October as the local council are going to remove the birds from the lofts.

It is a bit worse for wear and will need a bit of work to clear ready for the spring. On a plus it has a couple of fruit trees (apple and cherry) and a water station on one corner. It also has an entrance near by and friends of ours are either side.

I will take some pictures this weekend and post so you can see before and after.

4 whole weeks JR! You must have gone mad waiting that long, however did you cope? Look forwards to seein the pics, enjoy your digging.

I know Emma I do feel for you and others who have to wait that long, it may be worth sending a quick email to the council reminding them who you are and updating any contact details. Polite persistence and all that!

I think there are quite a few more plots in Dover than Folkestone so the lists are much shorter. If I have a surplus of Cherries I can drop some over to you, my children live in Folkestone so I am always back and forth.

They are excited too as they helped with the bits we grew this year. They really enjoyed the peas. Planting what were dry peas and them turning in plants, and then with pods, they then took the new peas out from the pods and watched them cook. I have not seen any kid eat peas that quickly ever! It is so true what they say involve them with the food and cooking and they will eat most things.

Cant wait to get to work on the plot!!!

home grown peas are the best, i remember growing them in my garden when i was a little one and i dont think they even got onto a plate, just eaten straight from the pods!

i hope all goes well for you and your new allotment, and i am eager to see pictures.

Here are the pics, lots to do but we did find a bay tree, another apple tree cox's I think, rubarb and fennel. All things we would like at home but dont have the room. The plot seems huge!!!

Wow JR that looks not dis-similar to my garden at the moment (only been here 6 months with baby, dry-rot, no heating, no hot-water, no plaster on downstairs walls and for a short while no roof) it hasn't been top priority to sort it out.

But it does look great, lots of potential I mean, I can see past the mess and the weeds.

Are those pretty white flowers bindweed? Even without, it will be still be a lot of work but congratulations on those trees and edible plants. At least that will help give some quick rewards.

Is that a freezer in the middle. That'll be helpfull!!!! I daresay the previous holder used it for something and no doubt you will as well.

Yes there is alot of bindweed on the plot, it is trying to kill one of the cherry trees too. The frezzer type thing is a large fish tank.

Once we have cleared it a bit and saved the cherry. I will take a few more.

I dont think we will be able to clear it all straight away, a 1/3 would be good to start and perhaps ensure the trees can grow ok next year. We hope to have it all fully under control by the spring, weather permitting.

especially as i'm(hopefully) just about to get my first allotment,there are apparently 3 sites near me within walking distance,off to look at them today and decide which i'd like and then find out what the waiting lists are like here.
A friend of mine bought 2 plots for her s/dad for xmas So apparently there might be plenty available here.

A 4 year wait is terrible.......However did you cope eccentric_emma ?
My partner is from Folkestone,funnily enough,i'm now glad we don't live there !!!!!!
