I just brought a new incubator, I can't wait till it arrives.

What shall I hatch first?

eggs?

dpends what you need.. want to raise for the table or to sell or to have more of?

I just like cute fluffy chicks, I suppose I really should incubate something that is usefull. We have the following:

6 Indian Runners mainly for eggs

Quail again for eggs, but there are only so many jars of pickled eggs one househiold needs

A Crested duck she is an old lady so really just a pet, her eggs are really week.

An Aylesbury drake agin just a pet as he is too old to eat now really

A Pair of Muscovies for pest control and they do a great job.

2 Silkies again as pets and for eggs.

So don't know really, the temptation is to hatch quail, just because they are quick to do.

Umm decisions, decisions.

quail are sposed to peg it after a relatively short period of time eh? so replenish the stocks?

Yeah ours are a year old now, but each females lays atleat 2 eggs a day sometimes 3.

Okay so its arrived now, got it set up and working, happy the temperature control is good, humiditiy seems constant, so now I'm ready to go, just need some eggs.

I have loads of fertile quail eggs, bot don't really want more quail, have fertile duck eggs, but again don't really want more ducks. So what shall I do? Has anybody got any eggs for sale or to swap?

I have a Sasso Quartet, but they have all but stopped laying already. I hope to be able to sell some fertile eggs in the spring to recoup the costs of the birds - watch this space!

I have had two decent hatches, and the elder batch are 40 days old today, experiencing their first rain (which does not seem to be doing them any harm!). They should be ready for the freezer in early December, with the second hatch ready 3 weeks later.
