So far this year I've had a fair amount of snails but haven't noticed as many slugs as in the past. I've not been very diligent about my "slug hunting" expeditions but, equally, I've not had a lot of slug damage to invoke my wrath either.

Hand picking. I used to think like you - eeewwwww - but now picking them up doesn't bother me at all. Have a jar handy to stick them in. You can always wear gloves...

Beer traps! My husband tipped out 4 large snails (we don't normally get the big ones but it's been pretty wet) which the ducks gobbled up. He then was a bit concerned in case we got tipsy ducks.....

We have anti-ram raid posts outside the door to the warehouse at work. They are the sort that push down into the ground when you want to drive over them.

One of my colleagues was trying to push them down the other day and they just got stuck about half way down. They are supposed to pop up on a spring but they were just stuck. After a lot of wobbling and kicking one of them eventually popped up and out flew a whole load of squashed slugs :pale:

I still think eww - but when i see the little blighters on my best red cabbage, the decision is easier!

we have been overwhelmed with slugs.. but that is pretty normal for our area

Beer traps work very well.....if you can stand all the singing into the early hours!

I applied one dose of nemaslug early in the year as slugs are usually a big problem for us. My raised beds have boards around them and these are capped with copper tape or wire. I've seen next to no slugs in the beds since, ufortunately the snails have come back probably worse than last year. Perhaps because they have no competition from the slugs.

If you are into permaculture, the you don't have a slug problem but a lack of ducks.
(5 more incomming ducks tomorrow :)) )

Oh dear - I must take more care when reading the titles of these forums - I got the letters of "UK" and "facing" all mixed up and thought that we were facing a f*****g big slug problem!!
