I live in Otley, West Yorks and am hoping to get together enough people to bulk buy organic chicken feed. Its £8.78 a bag if you buy a pallet full (thats 40). If you are interested or know of any similar schemes in the area, let me know .

That sounds like a good idea. Shame I'm so far away or I would have joined you.

Cheers

get yourself a silo, buy in bulk, and save a fortune (bagged costs a LOT more!)

Well as I only have 17 hens I don't think a silo would be worth it? I have not heard of buying loose - how does that work?

I was thinking here of getting together with a group and splitting the cost of a delivery - I would probably only need 6 bags myself.

Wish I could do that in East Lothian!

I never buy too much feed - always wary of the best before date (sometimes perilously near at my closest supplier). Perhaps the vitamins/minerals might not go off so quick in organic feed though?

I seem to remember that once in a while, a small silo would come up at a local farm sale for very little - if you erect that, the feed lorry comes along, and "blows" the feed into the silo - no hassle, no lumping of bags, and lots cheaper because of it
You can then bag it if you wish.......... :cooldude:

It's quite difficult to get organic feed supplied like this - or at least it is up this way.
