Cereal Identification - Barley or Wheat?

I have begun posting pictures from my recent trip to the Peak District on my Flickr account and this one has stirred up a lot of discussion:

I did a quick check before I posted by looking at the Wikipedia entry on wheat - it looked similar so I labelled it as such. However, I have now been argued round to considering it more likely to be barley.

It struck me that some of you might actually have grown both so what do you think? Wheat, barley or something else?

Thanks,

Wulf

Not an expert, Wulf, but think Barley has whiskers so you right.
Slightly off topic, just been talking to an old timer, worked on a
farm mostly, they would rig it so the combine's last cut cornered all the
rabbits, then a gang each side, would throw clubs as the harvester proceeded.
Free meat, probably not allowed now.

My Dad, when wee had to walk infront of the combine/reaper with a catapult and steel balls. He always maintains when getting a good shot, right between the rabbits eyes, that their eyes actually popped out.

I think they ate so much rabbit, they sickened themselves! He is not keen on eating it now. (50 years on!).

Actually I was convinced and relabelled it as barley some time ago but it is fun to see the picture popping up again :cooldude:
