Henry our rooster is finally going to get some company. I am going to collect six pullets from the breeder on Saturday morning. They are sixteen weeks old, so will have plenty of time to get aquainted before getting down to work and earn their keep. I hope it's love at first sight.

Hey congratulations! I got my first batch of pullets just 2 weeks ago and thoroughly enjoying my new past-time. Got a while before I can expect some eggs though, mine are 6 wks younger than yours.
What a lucky cockerel! Did you get a particular breed or hybrids?

Hi 3M, We weren't sure how the rooster would react toward the hens. I put the hens into the house while Henry was outside in the run. As soon as he heard the hens he was inside like a shot. Started prancing around. The hens had not seen a rooster before and they all huddled in a corner. After a while Henry stopped showing off and they all settled down. They now follow him all around the place. It must be love.

where did you get your chooks from?
I am on the lookout to increase our flock of five bantams (and ancient bantam rooster) and how much were they, if you don't mind me asking.

Henry sounds like a real charmer! Clearly he's a ladies man and knows how to win them over so easily.
He's a lucky boy!

Hi Possum, I bought them from a pullet breeder in Prebbleton, which is on the south side of Christchurch. My rooster is part Bantam. (Mother). Don't know what his father was. I got him from my cousin. He is about 45 - 50 cm tall in his stocking feet. I thought Bantams were small birds.
The pullets cost $16.50 each. ( Just over €9.23. £6.00) They were sixteen weeks old. If I had waited until they were 18-19 weeks they would have cost $18.00 each. They are Brown Shavers.
