How much I have saved by turning off at wall

For the past few months I have rigorously trained myself to turn off all appliances at the wall when not using them - nothing remains on standby or the power point left switched on.

Today I received my first full power bill which I can compare to one from the same time last year ... and I have saved a whopping 33%!!

This is great $$ wise, but even better knowing that is power that has not been wasted.

I had been told that appliances ate up so much on standby, but until you start turning things off yourself, I don't think you have any real idea of just how much is utterly wasted.

I started to do that, but then it tapered off. Now that I see how much can be saved, I will be back into turning all unwanted appliances off at the wall. You can buy a gadget that tells you where your power is going. Not sure how it works.

I have very little stuff that's on standby - but still, I wish they didn't always put those powerpoints in places where I'd have to move heavy furniture to get at them... :? Well, it's only the CD player, really. I only use it once in a blue moon; maybe I should make an effort to crawl behind the piano. Or pull the plug out of the machine - that might be easier!
