What ways have people come up with on ways to store water on allotments without their own supply?

We are looking at allotments, and thinknig of draining off the roof into a couple of water butts but wondered if anyone has any ideas about storing the maximum ammount?

Don't want it to take up too much veg growing space either.

We've got our waterbuts and plan to pop them onto breeze blocks so they are up and out of the way. We haven't got a shed yet so we're going to make a wooden frame to go over the top of the waterbuts with netting on them to keep the worst of the leaves out but let lots (hopefully!!) of water in. Just got to get them to the allotment first!! :flower:

Have you considered an IBC, its a 1000 Litre plastic tank on a pallet ( so that gives you an idea of size). A friend at work has just aquired one and is very happy, rekons it doesn't occupy as much more space than a water butt than you think, gievn that it is about 4 times the capacity. if height allows you can stack IBC even when full.

Do you have any links for where to get them? That'd fit where my water butt is at the moment!
