For some reason my local council, which boasts of its work on recycling (and, to be fair, has made the task a lot easier in recent years), is marked as having "no interest" in local collections of tetrapaks.

Anyway, I've now sent them a message and look forward to their response.

Wulf

ps. on the map, I discovered that you have to click the general area you want before you can navigate by hovering.

This is a major bug bear of mine! Despite the local council paying lip service to the idea of recycling, for some reason they are not interested in tetra pak. Yet what is half of everyone's bin filled up with? :mumum: The nearest tetra pak hub to me is in Fife (I think). It would be real easy to set up a hub collection point, and prganise for the said tetra paks to be sent there. But does it happen? Does it beggary!

We cut them in half and use them as plant pots - ok so they have to be binned eventually but at least they've been a bit more useful.

I think they recycle them in Moray which is a bit closer but even so - not exactly handy for someone on Shetland.

I think it must be all over as our local council take most things but not tetra-pac. The plastic the council would take was #1 and #2 if it was milk bottles and softdrink bottles. All other #s 3-7 had to be dumped. Now they have just started taking all stuff marked 1-7. Good progress.

this is crazy. portugal (one of the poorest countries in w. europe?) has recycling banks everywhere, and they all take tetrapaks. even our local village (<1000 inhabs.) has a recycling bank - paper, plastic, glass, tins and basically all containers of any kind can be taken there.

and then, because almost all portuguese grow vegetables (i have even seen people 'farming' a strip of land between lanes of the motorway in central lisbon!), they dont produce anywhere near as much rubbish as people in the uk do. when we were first here supermarkets were few and far between.

I've used them for soap molds!
I don't think even the council know what they recycle anymore here.

It's one of mine too - there's just nowhere round where I live that recycles tetra packs. I end up putting half in the paper bin and half in the plastic bin but can anyone tell me if I'm doing more harm than good or if it's a good idea?

I met up with a few friends the other day, one said that her husbands work was now recycling the tetra packs, and she is happy for me to take mine round to her to give to him to take to work :)
Her council also recycle batteries in their green box doorstep collection, so she will be taking them from me as well!! :)

Yesterday I noticed that Morrisons in Cheltenham now have a bin for recycling 'beverage cartons'.

Not much use for the general public, but tetra packs weave well into little baskets...

I made a basket big enough for 4 eggs for the old lady over the road who gave us some plums out of a juice container or 2.
