Does anyone know if there is a home-made version of antiperspirant? The price of these (as opposed to deodorant) is high, even if one buys store own brands.

Alternatively, can anyone suggest a source for a larger amount than the few ml available in, say, roll-on bottles and, indeed, if there is a brand of roll-on whose lid can be removed so allowing for refilling? It seems daft to me that you buy 50 ml, and a couple of weeks later, chuck the whole thing away.

With my oily-type skin, deodorant and scrupulous personal hygiene just isn't enough and I don't want to be the type my French friend described, when we were once in town together, and a less-than-fragrant person passed by, "ze woman zat steenks!'

the best I've found is called "Aromaco" from Lush - 'er indoors is very keen on their stuff, and bought me some ages ago. It's a white block that whiffs of patchouli, and works really well! - even under severe provocation!:cooldude:
I think it's about £3.50 a block, which lasts me three months! (keep it in a zipped up placcy bag to stop it drying out!) :dave:

ps I think it's strictly a "deodorant" - but by golly, it works!

Have you tried a pit rock? Its a crystal thingy that you wet and rub under your arms. I bought mine about a year agon from the local health food shop and its still going strong. It doesn't smell but it does seem to stop you being sweaty and costs less than a fiver

Agree with the Lush stuff being good, as long as the girlfriend goes in the shop and gets it, more than 10 seconds in that shop and I'll pass out from the smell.
I remember my old supervisor at work mentioned that he used one of those crystal thingies - he always seemed to smell of KFC though, not really sure whether that was the crystal or his eating habits though :)

I`ve used the crystal-rock thingy for some years now. It inhibits the presence of the bacteria on the skin that makes you pongy.
It seems to work - I used it when teaching gobby teenagers who would have soon let me know if there`d been any hint of a problem.

I've definitely had great results with the deo crystals...... I even used them during heavy gymnastics training as a teenager! Now keeping me non-whiffy in that time was a feat!!!!!

I have also found one of the Lush deoderants (Aromacreme) to be quite good. I think its actually the best deoderant I have tried, and that includes antipersperants. However, after a couple of weeks of use Aromacreme brought me out in a painful red rash  Still, I was impressed so much by its deoderising abilies that I'm tempted to give it another shot.

I have not had so much success with the deoderant crystal though, it didn't really work for me. :( Better than not wearing any deoderant, but not by much...

I find a mixture of pig manure and axle grease works well, masking any BO completely.

so what you are saying Stoney is that you just stink!

I have used the rock crystal stuff when the getting over the hill part for us girlie's was making me glow rather more than I liked  It didn't stop the sweat but did stop any smell, well I hope it did. My children use it all the time.

There was a report just out on the news that indicated tea tree oil and Lavender oil in shampoos were possible culprits in the developement of breasts in pubescent boys. Not sure how acurate that is, but if your boys start growing boobies you may not want the tea tree oil in the deod.

There is a condition occurring regularly in pubescent boys that makes them grow breasts - its down to hormones - and its known about!!! There is also a link between development of breasts in grown ups (especially men) and the amount of beer they drink!!! I'm not sure that a few drops of lavender is quite as bad as numerous pints of beer!!!

I'm thinking it's more all the hormones and whatnot in milk that are giving our kids such adult bodies in short years. I work in a middle school and some of the 6th graders have bigger breasts than I do, and I am by no means lacking there.

Just thought I'd throw that it the pot since I had just seen it. I'm sure if my 13-year-old had breasts he'd rather say it was from beer than lavender oil. A bit more manly way to get them!
