Random moment of proudness

I had to hit the shops for food today - after not spending much of Christmas at home I hadn't had to do any food shopping pre 25th.
Anyway, DS#1 who's 5 decided to come with me (yay

) and so the trip took much longer than originally anticipated. But on the way home he turned to me and said
"Why do people spend so much time in shops buying stuff? Like on Christmas eve, why do they spend money and queue up everywhere? I think it's better to make stuff and give that."
It made me so proud

Absolutely!!! A lot of kids don't even know that bacon or pork comes from an animal.
(strops are blooming awful though aren't they - J is being major stroppusalottus at the moment... but I think Ive found a cure!)

Well done that young man!!! And also to those bringing him up that way!! We need more of that in this world.
I'd love to hear your ultimate strop cure too.
I know that when my son was small I cured his tantrum strop by telling him he had to throw a proper one - and then proceeded to show him how!! Since we were on the main street in town he was mortified and hasn't done it since!!

A funny little aside about kids who know where their food comes from......
We (Max 3, Me 30+) were around a friends house before Xmas, I was helping her with her computer and she had got out her toy farmset to keep Max occupied. A knock at the door and an elderly friend of houseowner enters, sees max on the floor and starts talking about the animals with him, All is going well I have nearly finished on the computer and Max has been an angel talking about eggs and cockerals etc, the lady then gets to the cow "now Max, what do we get from cows?" Max sits tapping his chin in a really concentrated manner then shouts "we kill them for meat" at this the lady paled a little "ah yes dear," an the game came to an end, I don't think that was the answer she was looking for!
kind thoughts
Deb
PS as far as tantrums are concerned, I was told if your going to give in, give in early not after 15mins of tantrum all that teaches kids is that if you persist you get your own way. I must admit that I am as stubbon as either of my 2 so when a tantrum starts I will NOT give in regardless of what they actually want and ignore onlookers disapproving looks.

Shirl - Definitely let me know what the tantrum cure is!
Deb - I remember when Gabriel was about 3 we went to a local farm park. On the (very exciting) tractor ride around the place the other kids and parents were having conversations like " Look at the cow, what does it say Alfie/Harry/Sophie?".
Gabriel tended to point and shout "Look Mummy, a pig! We get ham and bacon and sausages from pigs don't we? But we only eat them when they are dead."
I wasn't the most popular parent but I was the most honest!

Great work, that parent. One down, 2,199,999,999 to go.
The cure for tantrums is to lock yourself in a room for 20 years. When you come out, your child will no longer throw tantrums (although your grandchildren may).
