Government grants

Apparently there are grants available for good folk like ourselves to put in more energy efficient things like boilers and insulation and so on.

Has anyone out there managed to get any money out of the system, and if you did, where did you start?

Insulation grants usually come from your local council, so start there. But also worth contacting the Energy Savings Trust, who are the body that administer government grants for such things.

The EST (and its former incarnations) were also in charge of grants for converting cars to alternative fuels like LPG. AIUI, it was a fairly bureaucratic process, and whether you actually got a grant depended upon whether they had any money left, even if you qualified in all other respects. But I also heard of many people who did get grants and seemed happy with them.
