But isn’t it sad how quickly a good thing like recycling can turn into a nightmare of bossy-minded pettiness?
Michael Reeves is the latest victim of dustbin derangement. Having volunteered to take part in a recycling scheme launched by his local council in Swansea, South Wales, Michael has ended up with a criminal record and a fine for £200 after a scrap of paper bearing his name found its way into a bag designated for other rubbish.
Michael was also admonished for putting out his bags a day early; he had done so because he was going on holiday on the day of the collection.
He says: “This conviction will be on my record for the next five years. I will have to explain myself if I apply for a new post. If I want to go to the United States, I will have to apply for a special entry visa.
