so far when we've been out gathering free food, I've only fed fruits to my daughter to keep her quiet on the trips. but is there anything else I can give to her to chew on? she's 7 months old and needs stuff to help with teething- that's preferably free!!

thanks.

How about dried apple rings? You can get them in health food shops but I don't see any reason why you couldn't dry your own in a very low oven. They're great for littlies because you can tie them onto highchairs, slings, pushchairs - anything - and when they throw them they don't end up on the floor.

my friend in the US has a hazel bark necklace for her kid and says it keeps her happy (she chews it and it seems to stop the pain) so perhaps hazel bark, but splinters would worry me with a bit just off a tree. Nutmeg is also meant to help, and when I did a quick search for the necklaces I couldn't find them but there are loads of amber teething necklaces, which seem less to chew and more to calm. Who knows?

as an update: dried apple rings are great for a teething baby, as is dried mango (mango jerky as my hubby calls it).
