Not the greenest holiday, nor a self-sufficient one, but we took the toddler to Wales and went to CAT with him as we weren't able to go to big green gathering. We used bio-degradable dispicables, as we were testing ourselves to see if it was possible to camp with him (and we went in the gas guzzler as we needed so much STUFF!) but we are confident that it is possible to camp with toddler. Next year however, we will have toddler AND a new one, so double trouble. I think they do a washing service at BGG tho' and I have plans to turn my hubby's t-shirt mountain into tie on nappies.

I'm so excited - i can almost taste the veggie pasties.

He loved CAT - we were a little suprised that not much had changed after about 4 years, and a lot of issues we are more aware of now don't seem to be mentioned there (like freecycle, and self sufficientish ha ha).

Hurrah! Back in a proper bed tonight tho' - he tried to stay awake, but a surfeit of sea air and running around had done for him.

I'm glad you had a good time, circlecross. How old is the toddler? We found camping with babies was fine, except for the sheer amount of gear you need to take. Camping with walking-to-3-year-olds was sheer hell for us. Well, the eldest has a form of autism so that didn't help. And since we had someone in that stage for about 7 years we didn't do much camping as a family for a while.

Now the youngest is 4 and camping is great fun again.

My oldest was 8 months and just crawling when he first went camping. He was a late starter my second son was just 8 weeks. Now at 8 and 6 they still love it.

He is 2, and has been walking since 10 months so we knew we would have to watch him like a hawk. We first took him when he was 4 months, and he was just a slug so it was much easier (although a breast pump left in steri-solution overnight is THE coldest thing I have ever encountered). He has been completely exhausted by it - very grumpy today, back in the real world - but had a great time. not much walking in the way of big mountains, but yomping up small hillsides in the wind and getting pushed over by waves have given him a good first camping holiday experience.
