Got a phone call this morning from our local allotment and Yes we finally got one and a good one too by the sounds of it. I need to get on and clear it of weeds. It's been left un-attended for a year, so it's pretty over grown. I'll post some pics later.

Also when I've got it cleared and dug it over etc...(oh my, sounds like hard work this) What would you suggest I plant and when can I start planting, I would like to get growing soon as really.

One of the best things you can do is get to know some of the fellow plot holders. The ones who have had one for a while know the soil, climate of the area and particular problems (we don't plant sweetcorn on ours as we have a few badgers around who turn into destruction loonies at the taste of corn!) if they're anything like the holders near our plot they will be a mine of information. There are always a few characters, I hope you don't have any elderly pyromaniacs like we have (!), but on the whole they are OK

We went down there on Saturday with the good intention of getting alot of it cleared, however after two hours and children crying and shouting they wnat to go home, we had to give in. We stood back and it looked as though we hadn't been there and the worst part is we've not had chance to get back which is really annoying. We did speak to a few of the plot holders, but some of them seem a little rude to my missus, as if they don't have the time for women pffft, they better get used to it or they'll be carrot wars. Funny old bunch us humans!!!

Congratulations on obtaining your new allotment. I can imagine it's a bit daunting tackling those weeds, but I am sure you'll crack it!
