Just thought you would like to know i have had two little ducklings born a few days ago,

And one of my rabbits gave birth to 5 babies all was going well untill she ran over two of them and killed them so now she won't have anything to do with the remaining three, so i am now hand rearing them and they are doing just great

Congratulations on the birth ! we had a few here as well ..

Are you sure she's not taking care of them ?

I had 2 litters of rabbit within 5 weeks of each others. And I've never seen the mum taking care of them once ! she does her business and that's it .. and I think they only get milk once a day .. and they stay in the nest for about 15 days because poping their nose out ... so it does look like the mum doesn't do a thing ..

So what makes you thing she doesn't take care of them ?

For the story, I thought we had 2 males, got a first litter as a surprise, separated the mum and dad a day after the first "kindling" ... and 33 days later -> another litter!

The first one was 7 but 3 died .. so down to 4 .. wich are sold now because they are too small to eat .. even the parents are barely 2kg and they are 8 months old or more.





And the last litter was 4 and all of them survived, and are reserved:

i know she was not looking after them, as she was seen throwing them around the hutch, i thought under the circumstances it was the only option open to me.

The babies are doing fine, feeding well and putting on weight nicely

i am charting their progress and am in constant contact with a freind from the rabbit society

i will post pics asap

Indeed if she was throwing them around the hutch is no good ..

how old are they now ? because they start eating solid food when they are about 3 weeks old .. on top of the milk of course ...

and they can normally be weaned at around 1 month ....

and please send us pics !

Hi everyone

Just thought i would bring you all up to date about my wee baby bunnies,

I am sorry to say i lost one earty this morning, it was fine at 3am and when i looked at 5.30am it was dead. i am unsure of what happened, but it was the weaker of the three

things here are very sad today

Sorry to hear that, Maggie - but there's not much you can do, these little animals can't tell us what's wrong with them. You know what they say about lambs - they are born determined to die - I think that's true for a lot of other animals, too.

Keep fingers crossed for the remaining two!

Just thought i would update you all on the last bunnys progress, its doing great, its now on solids and is putting on weight nicely now.

In light of the death of steve irwin (the crocodile hunter) and the greatest conservationalist that ever lived, i have decided to call the remaining bunny Irwin
