UK government and GM foods

Got this email from Friends of the Earth...

This time it's about our food - and the Government's plans to allow widespread GM contamination of conventional - and maybe even organic crops in England.

There's a consultation running now until the 20th October. The Government hasn't exactly tried very hard to let people know, so we're trying our best to spread the word and get as many people as possible to have their say.

Current Government proposals:
- pave the way for biotech companies to get their GM crops grown in England
- will mean GM contamination of conventional and organic crops
- fail to make sure the GM industry is strictly liable for any damage their crops cause
- mean allotment holders, beekeepers and gardeners won't even be told if a neighbouring farmer wants to grow GM crops
- suggest public registers of sites where GM crops are grown aren't needed

all in all it's bad news for anyone wanting to promote sustainable food production.

We've put together some easy info for people to help them have their say at http://www.stopgmcontamination.org and more info for campaigner-types is here:
http://community.foe.co.uk/contamination

it would be great if you're able to mention this on your site.

I think it is about time to spread the word on various forums - I am trying to think of the best way to mention this on the main site, I feel a feature coming on.
