No free papers, menus, junk mail

We need to reclaim 'no free papers' signs from crotchety old dears.
If everyone had a sign on their door or letterbox stating they didn't want free papers etc, then wouldn't this cut down on tons of paper use.
Maybe self-sufficientish could have a sign available to print off. Put the logo on and it's free advertising as well.

Must admit, the only free paper we get is the village paper - 6 times a year, with a one-page update in the months in between - and they are very useful if you want to know what's going on locally...
But in principal, I agree. Most days I chuck whatever I get in the mailbox straight in the bin. I've heard though that you can register with the postoffice if you don't want all that advertising stuff - does anybody know if that's possible? I mean the stuff that's not addressed to you personally. Have to investigate.

I got some stickers for the mail box from
www.ecozine.co.uk They still have the details of their campaign on the first page
Good idea to have a sign to print off with the Ish logo though.

The amount of junk mail I receive now is almost zero since registering. I still get the bits that come through unaddressed straight from postman. Still children need something to do sticking with.

You can register with Royal Mail to stop post addressed to "The Occupier", however this includes local authority circulars such as electoral roll updates. I decided not to register as I didn't want to risk being disenfranchised.
My main source of junk through the letterbox is fast-food/ take-away menus. These aren't delivered by the postman & I get at least 2 a day. I wouldn't mind so much, but most are for shops on the other side of the city. If I wanted a take-away there are dozens within a half-mile radius of my house.

A No Menus sign works. I haven't had a menu posted for months and I used to get 4 a day at least. I live within 10 mins walking distance of at least 20 fast food places and they all think they have to give you a new menu every week. Grrrrr!
Thanks for the link about the direct mailing list Chili Monster - I've been meaning to do that for ages and wasn't sure how.
