I harvested my squash today ahead of the stormy weather.
I grew 2 varieties this year, Black Forest and Black Futsu. The smoother ones at the front of the barrow are Black Forest and the puckered ones are Futsu.
Now, roasted B. Forest taste just like roast chestnuts. Forget Pottimarron, these are almost indistinguishable from the real thing both in taste and texture. The only problem is they lose their flavour early in the new year.
The B. Futsu is new this year and purports to taste like hazelnuts. Well so far they are totally tasteless, I'm hoping that they will develop this "nutty" taste when they mature.
I grew 2 B. Forest plants and got 5 fruits.
I grew only one B.Futsu and get 12 (so far) insipid fruits.
Mr Murphy is certainly alive and well in this corner of Ireland.

I think that's called Sod's Law!
I hope they develop some flavour or you're going to have to get creative with the flavourings.

Re: Squash harvest
They are both look stunning but I realise you're not growing them based on looks! Hope it matures nicely and you can make something of them
