You may have heard of kefir - a marvellous probiotic drink, much better than pills. Easily homemade. Water kefir is different again, but as lovely and can be made into all sorts of lovely drinks. The grains grow and grow, so you always have a surplus. Which is why I am offering them, for postage costs, to anyone interested. Websites:

Re: Water kefir grains - want some?
I make milk kefir and it grows like mad and I have to keep finding people to give it to our feed the surplus yogs to the dogs. I did water kefir a few years ago and it almost drove me demented, I think my pure spring water is like a kefir growing medium and I ended up with it doubling every 5 days, in the end, I buried it in the compost heap and ran away from it so I couldn't hear it scream

Re: Water kefir grains - want some?
I am slowly reconciling myself to the fact that after a week in the fridge I have to throw a jarful of grains on the compost every day. I hate waste but it teaches me to no mind so much .... My neighbour benefits though: I give him one jar every week and he takes a spoonful of grains daily instead of the probiotic tablets he used to have to buy. Am still trying to find more people like that!
When it gets too sour I use it to clean the sinks.
The compost is a good cause too though, isn't it? And I love love love the drink.
