Now that the pesky wedding is over, I have ordered my edible hedge, woo!

I have had a thought though - it is roughly equal parts hazel, cherry plum (myrobian plum), crab apple, dog rose and common pear.

As three are a good few members of the rosaceae family in there, is there a high risk of fireblight in the fruit trees I am planning on planting in the garden, within about 5m of the hedge? I have plans for quince, pear, have two apples already, plumsm cherries and damson trees. Oh and a medlar!

The only thing you can do is plant them and then see what happens, I have never seen it in fruit trees, seen a fireblight on pyracantha, if you are worried, order your apples on fire blight resistant rootstocks, you can always replace a bit of hedge but not trees

I think you might be right digger. It won't be the end of the world and I can always put something completely different in the gaps.
