Bonsai

I'm just starting to grow some tree seedlings as bonsai

Any one else doing it?

You've probably googled all the info, I used to have a book. From memory, we got seedling trees and trimmed the tap roots, to start the dwarfing process, then we wired the little branches as they started into shapes, pruning leaves that looked too big, I think you have to trim the tap root and other roots yearly. Wisley did a wonderful display of Bonsai a few years ago, with some specimens being over 100 years old. There is a Berkshire Bonsai Society, maybe there is one for Ireland as well

We used to have a LAdybird book about growing bonsais in half a grapefruit shell.

I love the idea of taking a trees and training it into an a typical form

I like topiary for the same reason

I have a sitka spruce that is a few years old and one year old sweet chestnut and apple
