looking for suggestions as to what "pretty" veg I can grow?

have cleared an area outside my back door, a little of which IS mine, some is the neighbours ( no objections), and some may be public.

the area is sloping and fairly enclosed on 3 sides, and wont get any direct sun after about 2pm.

I will put some flowers/ flowering shrubs, but was thinking it would be best to put "prettier" veg, to put off any nay-sayers!

Any suggestions?

swiss chard look great if if get the one with different colour stems and get very good crop to

runner beans always lots of bright red flowers ,

natstiums great flowers and both flowers and leaf great in salads

I had a garden out front once that I did as a demonstration garden for both attractive and functional veg. I grew, crimson flowered broad beans, purple podded peas, cherokee trail of tears climbing French bean with purple flowers and pods, had attractive leaves as well, crystal lemon cucumber, red, green and speckled lettuce grown together, any oriental cut and come again stuff looks very attractive and doesn't mind a bit of shade, egyptian onions and of course herbs which have lovely flowers, water cress and chives, all grown in a north facing aspect and did very well

got some beans / peas, nasturtium seeds waiting to germinate,will try get some different varieties of beans, diff colour flowers, and
can grow them up against the walls, and put the nasturtiums more on obvious view, in the area 8 well some of it) that may be public!

I recommend globe artichokes the flower buds of which are edible but also the plant is very attractive and dramatic. It's also a perrennial.

Romanesco broccoli looks great and tastes great.
