Hayfever Help
Anyone know of any natural remedies for hayfever. This year seems worse than normal probably due to the cold spring. I've tried all the normal over the counter remedies which are supposed not to make you drowsy like Piriteze (cetirizine) Clarytin (loratidine) and Benadryl (acrivastine) and gues what, they all don't touch the hayfever andthey all make me dangerously drowsy.

Re: Hayfever Help
I went to see my doc recently as my hayfever is so bad - none of the natural remedies help me.
Seem to have got things tolerable now by taking one cetirizine last thing at night so the worst of the woosyness is at nighttime. During the day I use Beconase each evening and morning and Opticrom eyedrops as needed.
I've also been smarming vaseline around the inside of my nostrils and I understand that there is another balm type stuff available from health food shops for a fiver. The 99p vaseline does the same thing.
Hope you get things sorted - it really is miserable feeling so horrible especially when the sun shines and you want to be outside.

Re: Hayfever Help
Although I don't suffer so badly from hayhever these days, I find eating narrow leaved plantain or ribwort very effective when I am affected. The nice thing is it is generally on hand when you are outside, in the garden, etc and need it.

Re: Hayfever Help
I'm so glad you said that. I was thinking that there was something seriously wrong with me. I don't normally react this badly to the hayfever tablets but this year I've been feeling really 'spaced out'. I can barely stay awake at work but can't sleep at night.Crickleymal wrote: they all don't touch the hayfever andthey all make me dangerously drowsy.
The hayfever's been weird as well. Normally I sneeze a lot and my eyes and ears itch. This year, it's been my sinuses that have been playing up. They're all blocked and I can't breath through my nose. Must be the effect of all this mutant pollen that's flying around now.

Re: Hayfever Help
not much help in the short term, but consuming LOTS of local honey, is supposed help build up the immune system and stop/ minimize the reactions to your local allergens.
i cant vouch for this personally, but i do know a lot of people who claim a good to dramatic improvement and find they are also alot better away from their local area too

Re: Hayfever Help
Cows milk is supposed to cause a build up of mucus so cutting down might help to reduce the runny nose/sinus problems, if you suffer from them. I did try it last year and thought it helped a bit but it might just have been that the hayfever season wasn't so bad last year.

I have also read about using local honey.Find your local bee keeper and purchase the honey from them.I think from memory you take 1 tablespoon a day, obviously you can use this anyway way you want, just as,or in drinks, over porridge,on toast etc.It builds up immunity.
