Ok, still hellbent on wiping out the red mite population of North Oxfordshire, I sent DH to get more mite powder, paraffin, poultry shield etc
Nobody round here sells the poultry shield anymore, but one chap suggested jeyes fliud. Could anybody say whether it will kill A) the mites (good thing 8) ) or, more importantly, B), the chickens (NOT good)?
TIA

According to Martindale it is a solution of sodium hypochlorite (Liquid bleach or pool chlorine) containing 5 or 10% available chlorine. So long as you don't go beserk with it and maintain ventilation it shoudl be OK with the chooks and will probably give the mites a hard time!

Thanks!
I always thought it was a bit more exciting than just bleach...
I did a nocturnal clean of the hen house last night, torch between teeth, and seem to have zapped more mites as thay were out looking for chicken legs, so hopefully that's knocked the population back a bit
