Looks like I use 37 litres of water a day. Although I am sure that it is less than that.
how much do you use?

Oh dear. 169 litres per person!

I allowed one hour of hose piping in the garden but it will probably be more than that. It does seem that a quarter of my water is spent flushing the loo.

(We don't always flush it either and I accounted for that!). A lot of this is guesstimate though.
Actually I know from my bill that we use approx 80m3 per 6 months in the winter, and a lot more than that in the summer (the extra goes on the garden).

96 litres per day per person. That's well under the average but it's still quite a substantial amount - the large water butt in the back garden is 190l, which gives a very clear impression of just how much that is!
I can see a few ways of bringing the level down a bit, although we're already taking quite a few measures to reduce usage. For example, for for the past few weeks, we haven't used any water directly for watering the garden; it's all been grey water (the greyer stuff goes on the shrubs and ornamentals and the almost clean or clean savings go on the crops for consumption). That helps keep the overall usage down, as does that toilet rhyme I learnt here ("if it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down"!).
I'd be quite amenable to having a water meter fitted - not only do I think we'd actually be better off (the survey suggests that Jane and I come to 120l / day less than average British consumption) but it would also provide a more accurate way of gauging what we actually do use.

... 85 l per day.
However, has crystalised the issue more fully for me ... thanks for posting, Andy; been a real eye-opener!
