Soak 1 cup of oats in 2 cups of water overnight. Blitz in a blender, strain and water down to whatever consistency you like it.
It doesn't keep though so you'll need to make it fresh every couple of days.

Hi
oats can be used in bath water to soothe eczma I see no reason why you couldnt use pre soaked ones
Or porridge perhaps, thickening for soup?

Thanks Maggie

What she said!
I'm not sure I'd use them for cookies or anything like that but certainly for soups etc......or chickenfeed.

My girls suffer from sneezing allergies and we are trying it as a cows milk substitute, as they donot goats milk and soya has its own issues!

I've tried it and liked it. You can even add it to hot tea (unlike soya). Not exactly like cows but not unpleasant. I was using it in everything as part of my diet. I like using oats because they give you energy and lower cholesterol (allegedly). Really I only gave up because it's a fag keeping supplies in. Now I will try and make some of my own.
You can add oats to mince, eg for shepherds pie, to stretch it out frugally and reduce the amount of meat for health. I tried and none of the family noticed any difference.

There are UHT oat milks available but I was keen to reduce the cost as there are 5 in the house and there are always oats in the cupboard!

This works pretty well if you've used tights/a stocking to strain the milk and wring out the oats for the milk (just tie up the leg and pop it in the under the tap in the bath while its running, save you swimming in them). I think you can also use it as a face exfoliating pad inside the tights, (or take it out and leave it on as a face mask if you are that way inclined - probably good for razor burn too). Success might depend on how well your blender whizzed it all up.
You could also throw the oats into a smoothie or a yoghurt with some fruit to make a breakfast type thing. Or you could throw it into some bread, or dry it and make some crackers?
Love the soup thickening idea!

Something not commonly seen in these isles is a 'milk maker'.
I was sick of all the tetrapaks the OH seemed to generate (I don't do 'milk' of any sort but she likes some of the non-dairy ones) so a made a present to her of one such machine.
This is the one I got her. A very robust machine and easy to clean. It takes only 20 minutes to make about a litre (plus any soaking time) and often there's no residue. If there is, there are various recipes on the web for it or it makes an excellent addition to compost.
We have hardly any gadgets in the kitchen but this turned out to be an inspired decision. Yes, there are other ways to make this 'milk' I know, but most involve some kind of grinding, so a different gadget is required.
She makes a batch just once a week and is delighted with the results. You can make a 'milk' out of so many things: oats, rice, soaked beans of several sorts, many nuts (she's fond of cashew 'milk').
Hundreds of tetrapaks not bought since!

Yup we have one too. I keep a stock of soya beans for if we run out (Ma and Gal only use Soya milk) and I've also used it for almond milk.
