I am pleased to announce that the two footed-fox that has been prowling our neck of the woods has been apprehended and is now awaiting trial! hurrah, this bloke has been nipping into folks' gardens and stealing poultry to order, one of my friends lost 6 4 week old Buff Orpington chicks, and another lost an absolutly beautiful Cuckoo Maran Cockeral who had won several prizes last year, both within a couple of days of each other. This bloke got cocky and slipped up trying to sell them on to one of our circle.....I bet he just gets fined, or community service if we're lucky-but hey this little spree was halted.

I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that!!! I guess there is some consolation thought in that the birds are most likely still alive. Anyway at keast the culprit has been caught - the bastard!!

Up here cockerels are more likely to be stolen for cock fighting. We had someone lurking around the chicken shed last year and when we spoke to to the police they said they were almost certainly after the cockerels.

We've also had people steal eggs (no eggs and footprints in the mud below the nest boxes) and vegetables (no rabbit that I know of neatly lifts entire rows of carrots and cuts off lettuces).

Oh Stonehead!, I never even thought about cock-fighting, I really hope that wasn't where the Maran was heading-what a terrible waste. This guy has been caught doing this a couple of times before I heard today, just goes to show the punishment is obviously no deterrent.

HHHmm - Wellington's no tthat far from me; I've had two bantam Appleyard drakes and two white Call drakes stolen............ a while ago now, but definitely two-footed thief.

Luckily - so far... we've not had any problem with 2 or 4 footed variety but have previously fallen foul of the 4 legged variety (mother goose, 4 hens, 4 ducks... )

I am pleased to know that your 'chicken nicker' has been stopped in his tracks. Nothing is sacred these days is it?

Call me paranoid, but I am waiting for the first stone or brick to hit our greenhouse soon! You kind of expect it these days. What a pity.

It's not too bad around here usually, very quiet. I had some plants stolen (quite a tableful) from my gate table the other week, and the padlock nicked from the money box There have been soem cats gone missing, but that might just be cats. I was annoyed about the ducks though; we back on to fields, so whoever it was wouldn't have been seen, and there is a public footpath over to the woods, so persons about wouldn't arouse suspicion. The Calls went overnight, though, someone must have known they were there.

I think there's a lot more cock fighting going on than you'd think - when we had some surplus cockerels, we advertised them in a local free paper - some VERY dubious types crawled out of the woodwork!

And not just cock fighting - we also know of badger baiting, dog fights and various others. They're held in deserted/derelict barns, steadings or houses -of which there are many hereabouts - or deep in forestry areas.

It's one of the reasons I think people should put down their excess cockerels themselves instead of advertising them as "free to good home".
