Boosting Telephone Signal

Hi,

I have a patch of woodland with a caravan on it. I would love to be able to spend more time down there but need internet access in order to work. There is a signal, but it is intermittent and I can't rely on being able to work (which I need to be).

My work laptop has a dongle for wireless / 3g etc.

I wondered if anyone had any experience on boosting signal to an area. Would something like this help...?

- Just re-read that and it seems very garbled but I hope you get the idea!

Hi Peter,
Is the signal intermittent OUTSIDE the caravan or inside ?
The aluminium walls of the caravan acts as a shield for radio signals.
If it does work outside OK, you can maybe use your phone as a modem and perch it in a window to get a better signal.

Hi,

It's much the same in or out of the caravan. I have spent an entire day down there and not lost the signal, other days it's hard to get on. I'm guessing I'm just on the border of a transmitter.
The dongle and laptop are supplied by work and all locked down so I can't plug anything else into the computer.

Thanks for your suggestions though,

Peter

Would you be in a position to have a mast on your property? The reason I ask is that if you are in a blackspot or poor coverage area Mobile phone companies will sometimes pay a good rent for somewhere to place a mast/relay station.

Solves one problem and generates income too.

Sadly not, it's only an acre and as it is all woodland I don't think there would be much room left for me if I had to share with a mast.
