Hi

I have just taken in 7 hens that have been stripped of their feathers by an agressive cockerell!! The previous owner of the hens 'dispatched' the cockerell, but only afer he had done a lot of damage to his hens.

Does anyone know of anything I can put into feed/drink that will encourage the growth of feathers.

The poor hens look like they have come to me 'oven ready'!!!

Many thanks

Geof

I would give them a good pinch of poultry spice to help them along; it's generally given after moulting to get the hens back in condition, but sounds as if yours could dow ith it now, poor things! Plenty of fresh greens etc as well, and fresh water.

my golly - can you still get it? - I'd heard of it, but thought it was something that had gone the way of the dodo! 8)

apparently a lot of battery rescue chooks come "oven ready" and a little tlc and they fluff up fairly quickly. A friend of mine has a whole flock who arrived primarily nekkid!!!! they are all luffly and fluffly now!

It comes in a good old fashioned cardboard drum, nice and unfancy  I got mine from MVF fairly recently.

I use poultry spice too...good stuff and the chickens like it. you can also get a poultry tonic that is added to their water. Also very good and far cheaper.
