Hi All

Thanks for reading this.....

I am renovating a place and will be getting my Rayburn bought here soon (Fife) and it currently had been running radiators and water. I don't actually need the water or radiator heating side of it for the first year.

I wondered if anyone has experience of filling the back boiler with sand ? and or does anyone have advice as to what it the best thing to do OR will I cause problems for later.

OR

If put a tank on it for water and wondered if the cold needs to come from a tank also or can it come straight from the mains?

Would I also need to add a small radiator as well as water tank?

OR

Could I just run small radiator on say a towel rail type.

My issue is that I am going to be using it for the one room I shall live in whilst beginning renovations and need it mainly for cooking and warmth at the moment.

Any suggestions thoughts greatly welcomed.

Thanks JB

I can't cite direct experience here, only what I have been told about Godin stoves, and that is this: the back boiler should be kept in water service, so never exceeding 100°C (unless something goes badly awry) otherwise joints and seals can buckle with the heat making it difficult to couple up to the hot water system afterwards.
