Yes, Slice ito 1/2 inch pieces and fry in butter....or cube and make a soup. Lovely find!

It is a puffball. you should make sure that it is white all the way through before you cook it.

Thank you Davie. When we cut it open, it had a neon yellow undercarriage. Which was a bit off putting!

It should be pure white in there, any yellowing means the flesh is past it. If you cook a puffball like that it'll smell like a wet Labrador and taste pretty much how it smells. Best committed to the compost I'm afraid but keep your eye out where you found that one, now it's rained there's likely to be others. As a field test before picking (if you don't want to cut into it) drum your fingers on the surface. It should feel really firm and have an agreeable high pitched resonance, once you've drummed on one or two you'll know what I mean.
