freezer needs defrosting already?!?!

Hello,

I am at a loss.
Yesterday I turned off my fridge/freezer (one control for both compartments), in order to defrost the freezer (2 inches of ice and a whole bunch of "freezer burn"!!).
Once clean, I turned it ON again and replaced all of our frozen foods.

Today, however, the freezer is once again FULL OF "freezer burn" (snow-like crystals forming all over every package and all the walls).

What can I do to prevent this?
WHy is it happening?

Thanks All!!!

You need to move to a climate that has a lower humidity.

The freezer isn't doing anything wrong. It is just chilling the air and all the moisture in the air to the freezing point. That moisture freezes and you get frost crystals. Moving to a desert will solve the problem.

Maybe check the seals too.

Agree with above, especially about the seals. If there is even the tiniest gap around the door you will get lots of ice forming. The other thing is to make sure that the freezer is completely dry when you switch it back on. If there is some residual moisture or condensation inside then it will form ice. Don't be tempted to open the door while it's getting down to temperature for the same reason. It attracts condensation which then freezes.

^^ what Zoe said ^^ :salute:

check seals and dry it thoroughly, also dry the outside of the items you're putting back in
