Hi everyone,I'm wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to have a woodburer installed?We have had woodburners in the past,but have always brought houses with them already in!Ok we already have an open fireplace,which used to have a gas fire in front of it,which has been recently removed.I know the price of woodburners but really just wanted an idea of having someone install it for us.Can anyone give me a rough figure please?

This is a daft responce, as there are so many variables.
If you need a liner, on a normal house, and your vents are ok £2k.
So budget say £3k for the job, Back boiler and plumbing add another £3k for up to say 5 rads.
So thats £6K to heat the house, you have to chop all your wood, shift messy logs in and out, worry about damp and wet, it's allot of effort to be green!

Hmmm Abit more expensive than I had first thought! We're not having a back boiler,just a woodburner(multi fuel).Why is the installation so expensive?I would of thought as we already have the chimney it would be a straight forward type job.I did'nt expect it to be cheap,I was thinking maybe £1,500?Welcome to the real world eh?

Hi HH. I recall that you are based somewhere in Wiltshire. There are two main outlets for woodburners - RW Knight at Castle Farm, Marshfield, Nr Chippenham and Sarsen Stoves at Ludgershall. I bought mine from Knights and they can recommend an installer. Stove and liner cost just over £2k. Hope that helps.

Have you thought about installing it yourselves? We did just that when we had our last log burner put in after really high quotes. It was quite easy and have had no problems with it.

Thanks for the replies!Baldybloke,I spoke to someone in Corsham today who is registered with Hetas,and they have quoted me £450 for an install,£55 per metre for the flue,£70 for a thermostat and for a few other sundries,and I think they said £150 for the hearth,so in all under £1,000 which sounds pretty good to me! Pelmetman,installing it ourselves?Are you kidding? My 'OH can't even hit a nail in a wall straight yet alone install a woodburner.Think Frank Spencer,yep thats my man!lol lol No best leave it to the professionals I think!I might give those two other places a ring BB to just ask for a quote,it pays to get a few right?xx

I am thinking that Knight's might be closer to you and they have a good display of stoves and are pretty helpful. I went for a Stovax Riva which looks really good with my original hearth, but there are cheaper alternatives.

Hi BB,yes we went to Marshfield today and yes they do have a good range don't they?I have been researching this week,and discovered some makes are made from scrap metal as opposed to cast iron,and the price does vary quite considerably after shopping around.The guy in Marshfield though was very helpful and its a great place to get an idea of sizes and what style you like/don't like so thanks for suggesting it.

Yes I do BB.When we decided to raise the beds,originally I posted an offered ad on freecycle asking for planks,but unfortunately no one responded and time was running out.We happened to be in Whitehall garden Centre in Lacock,and they have the kits,rectangular,which are approx 1 metre wide and (?)3m in length and costs £19.99,when we brought them,it was buy 2 get an extra one free.They still have them as we were there this afternoon.Easy to put together and they did have smaller sizes.

Aren't forums wonderful. I have just slabbed around my raised beds as mowing between them was a real pain. The original wood was well rotten and I need to replace them. The sizes might be slightly larger than I need, but no doubt I can adapt them. I will go and take a look soon. Cheers
