I have had 5 female quails for 6 days and one of them is getting picked on by only one other I think.
Her head had lost som e feathers and there is some blood on top of head.
I do not think they are overcrowded as my run is bigger than the one they were kept in before.
I beleive them to be about a year old.
The one being picked on is white and is now v sorry for herself,the others are the usual Japanese quail colours, although one is more tan coloured.
Should I separate them or will it stop do you think? Could this be due to the stress of moving to a new home?
Egg production has stopped, they only laid the day I picked them up but I believe this is normal until they settle in.
Any help gratefully received as I dont like to think of her in pain or suffering.

I have chooks not quail, but I expect they are similar. Can you seperate them, but still let them see each other? Put the little white one in a smaller cage near the big one? That way they may start to tolerate her and might accept her back eventually. Do you have some purple spray? Chickens will peck at anything red - particularly blood and spraying the affected area another colour will put them off. Even food colouring can work. Egg production can drop off to start with. If the problem persists can you talk to the people who sold them to you: some will take bullies back.
I hope that is of some help, but I am sure someone will come along who knows all about quail.

I separated her a while back as she was so badly pecked I thought she would have to be put down but after a week in a cat basket she has returned to normal and been in her own pen for over a week and doing well.
Today she laid her first egg again and all is healing well.
I didnt know about the spray so will bear that in mind as I have chooks also.
